IndieRF

About the editor

IndieRF is written and built by one RF engineer who prefers to let the tools do the talking. If you have shared a lab bench with him, you can probably guess. If not, that is fine. The math is the same either way.

The short version

  • An MS in electrical engineering from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.
  • A stack of published papers on reconfigurable RF hardware.
  • More than ten years of RF work since then.
  • At Northrop Grumman: MMIC design, then RF modules and space payloads.
  • Now at Amazon Leo: system-level design for satellite broadband communication.
  • Grew up on an island in the middle of the Pacific. Now works where the rain is colder.

Why IndieRF exists

Most good RF tools cost a lot, need a license server, or hide the math. Most free ones give a number with no reason behind it. When I started out, the most useful thing was a person who explained why the number came out the way it did.

IndieRF tries to be that person. Every tool is free, runs in the browser, and shows its work: the equations, the assumptions, and where the model stops being right. It is meant for students, hobbyists and engineers new to RF, and for the rest of us when we need a quick sanity check before opening the expensive software.
